Malaysia Proposes Taming America’s Veto Voting Powers At The United Nations

By Joel Wong

This video discusses Malaysia’s proposal to limit America’s veto powers at the United Nations, criticizing the perceived unchecked influence and abuse of power by the U.S., particularly in relation to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The moderator in this video is identified as Z.Ganga, a business journalist by profession and a digital content creator. The Malaysian spokesman mentioned in the video is the Malaysian Prime Minister. His main points include:

  • Advocating for the abolishment of the veto power of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, especially in cases involving mass atrocity crimes like genocide.
  • Proposing that the veto power should be regulated to prevent unjustifiable or abusive use by permanent members against the wishes of the majority of member states.
  • Suggesting that the veto should be exercised by at least two of the P5 members and supported by three non-permanent members, with final approval by the General Assembly.
  • Asserting that the veto has no place in modern democratic structures and calling for its abolition based on democratic principles and accountability.
  • Emphasizing the need for reform in the UN Security Council to enhance its efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity.
  • Criticizing the undemocratic nature of the veto and its contradiction to the founding principles of the United Nations.

The West commands a lot of power which the world has been uncomfortable with but chose to stay quiet. However, the behavior of America at the UN vetoing major decisions concerning Palestine in favor of Israel has unsettled that order as the other countries begin to speak up!
