Ding Ding TV report – 22nd Silicon Valley Korean American Federation’s Inauguration

On April 22nd, 22nd Silicon Valley Korean American Federation’s Presidential Inauguration was held at the Korean Palace Restaurant in San Jose.

About Silicon Valley Korean American Federation

On February 20, 1973, the Santa Clara Korean American Association(SCKAA) was formed by President Kim Seung-eun, Vice President Choi Joo-nam, and Chun-hee Lee. On July 22, 1973, Kim Seung-eun resigned, and Shin Hae-sun took charge of his office. Because the Korean American population was greater in San Jose than in San Francisco, the Korean American community discussed the need to organize the San Jose community as a group apart from the San Francisco branch. With the help of the SCKAA and their community leaders acting as board of directors, the San Jose Korean American Association (SJKAA) was organized. The San Jose, and Santa Clara Korean American Associations became one under a new name: Silicon Valley Korean American Federation (SVKAF).

Since the birth of the SVKAF, past presidents and chief executive officers did their best to provide help and support the Korean American community. Many leaders would work two jobs, night and day, to help local and international students financially and build networking relationships for internships. Many members also actively participated in helping each other. Those who helped are proud to see the students and the Korean community grow and will always be remembered for their giving hearts.

‘Korean Night,’ the very first performance sponsored by the SVKAF in 1980, is still remembered by many. The Korean population wasn’t great at the time, even so, around 1,400 people gathered together in one place to listen to the songs of Korean singers. Many people voluntarily donated $10, $20, and $50, thanking and appreciating the organizers of SVKAF for filling the night with nostalgia for their country.
