107-year-old Paul Beiren Hau exhibition opening at Silicon Valley Asian Art Center & Narx Gallery

Diana Ding moderated the opening of Paul Beiren Hau exhibition opening at Silicon Valley Asian Art Center & Narx Gallery. Master Heu BeiRen is 107 and he created some of the paintings on display at the age of 105. At the age of 90, he started to change his style of painting and said “90 is the time to change.”

Diana had the pleasure to first interview Master Heu BeiRen nearly two decades ago.

Paul Beiren Hau was born in 1917 in Liaoning, China.

In 1956, he moved to the United States via Hong Kong. In 1979, he established the American Society for the Advancement of Chinese Art (ASACA) and is the Permanent Honorary Chairman. His work, has been exhibited in and collected by major museums and universities in the United States.

His use of rich, bold and saturated colors, his unrestrained and hearty style struck a chord in many viewers. From 2008, he held a series of exhibitions and seminars starting at the Shenzhen Fine Arts Museum, followed by the Nanjing Museum, the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the Shanghai Liu Haisu Fine Arts Museum in 2009, and the Liaoning Provincial Museum in 2010.

After the Fifty Year Retrospective at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto in 2011, Mr. Hou also had solo exhibitions at the Silicon Valley Asian Art Center (2011), Anhui Hefei Yaming Museum (2011), Fujian Art Museum (2012), and the Zhejiang Art Museum (2013). In 2002, Hou donated 300 pieces of his lifes work and rare collections of past masters such as Zhang Daqian, Fu Baoshi, Zhu Qizhan, and Huang Binhong to the City of Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The People’s Government of Kunshan City built a Museum in his name to house and to exhibit these precious artwork.
