Asian American Stories Committee Gathering – Taste of Asia monthly cultural celebration debuted at Isla Restaurant in Newark

Community and opinion leaders jointly created the Asian American Stories Video Contest to shine the spotlight on stories that unite diverse cultures, amplify underrepresented narratives, and reshape perceptions. On Saturday, August 19, 2023 Committee Members, and some Judges and Community Partners of the Contest came together to celebrate their commitment and cultural diversity at Isla Restaurant in Newark.

First in a monthly Taste of Asia series of cultural celebration, this lunch at Isla Restaurant featured popular Filipino favorites such as adobo (a savory meat dish), tacit (stir-fried noodles), lumpia (spring rolls), singing (sour soup), and halo-halo (a refreshing dessert).

Committee Member Francis Espiritu and Contest Judge Don Orozco organized this first luncheon of the Taste of Asia series, and aptly selected the outstanding Isla Restaurant following many consultations with husband and wife owners Mel (chef) and Gel. The event was covered beginning-to-end by Gelo of Barangay USA.

Join this movement for cultural diversity and exchange, join and support the Asian American Video Contest. The 2023 theme is “All of Us Belong Right Here.”
