Scams Targeting AAPI Communities

According to Ethnic Media Services, FTC convenes Bay Area legal experts, consumer advocates, community stakeholders & people who have experienced fraud.

Scammers invent new schemes that target AAPI and other communities every day. Newly arrived immigrants, people with limited English proficiency, and older AAPI adults can be particularly targeted. The impact is not just financial: experiencing a scam also takes a toll on someone’s physical and mental health. Information is the most powerful weapon people have to protect themselves, helping them spot, avoid, and report fraud. Which is why the Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s leading consumer protection agency, is convening a roundtable of ethnic media and community stakeholders to raise awareness about the latest scams. Speakers include FTC officials, legal experts, consumer protection advocates, community organizers, and people who have experienced fraud.
