Fundraising Event For Stephanie Nguyen in San Francisco

Stephanie Nguyen A Rising Star in the APIA Community

By Joel Wong

Although Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIA) are the fastest-growing racial and ethnic group in California accounting for about 16% of the state’s population, APIA representatives in California State’s Legislature remain under-represented in the Assembly (9/80) and the Senate (2/40). The California APIA community is justifiably excited when quality candidates such as Stephanie announced their candidacy for the State Legislature.

The daughter of refugees who fled Vietnam on a boat, Stephanie Nguyen came from a very humble background. This gives her extra incentive to promote economic opportunity, healthcare equity, and social justice to other disadvantaged families. For 15 years, Stephanie worked hard as the Executive Director of Asian Resources, Inc. (ARI) to ensure the community and people, especially the low-income, immigrants, refugees, limited English speaking, youth, formerly incarcerated and undocumented, have access to support and services helping them get a step closer to self-sufficiency.

In 2017, Nguyen was unanimously appointed to serve as the Councilmember for District 4 in the City of Elk Grove, making her the first Asian American woman to serve as a Councilmember for the City.

Stephenie has won the support of many civic leaders, such as Sandy Chau, Ken Fong, Buck Gee, Ron & Maeley Tom. They and other like-minded leaders conducted a Fundraiser on her behalf on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Harborview Restaurant in San Francisco. Even though it was on short notice, over 30 people attended the event and over $20,000 was raised on her behalf.

Joel Wong, President of NAAPAC (National Asian American PAC) helped organize the event and served as the MC.

Stephanie Nguyen has fought to bring economic opportunity, health equity and social justice to the families whose lives are impacted most by these issues.

As an Executive Director of a local non-profit organization, Stephanie works with employers to provide paid on-the-job training to dislocated workers. Critical for building a healthy community, Stephanie also helps low-income individuals and families enroll in health coverage plans. As a member of the Elk Grove City Council, Stephanie draws from her experience in business and finance to help the city develop economically by supporting businesses thereby increasing jobs.

We need a community trailblazer like Stephanie to lead our region towards economic recovery by making resources available to those who need them most, expanding opportunities for businesses and working families, and making insightful and effective policy changes to improve the lives of all residents in Assembly District 10.
