Silicon Valley Community Media marched on the Santa Clara Parade of Champions, with Asian American Stories Float, delivering the message “All of Us Belong Here”

By Joel Wong (Chief Editor, Ding Ding TV)

Silicon Valley Community Media won the first place for the Community Float.

The Santa Clara Parade of Champions took place on October 7th, kicking off with a pancake breakfast at 8am followed by the parade at 11am. The parade featured a variety of participants, including Olympic gold medalist Donna De Varona, Krazy George, and characters from California’s Great America. The event also included a Community Village and food trucks, offering a dayful of events filled with fun and community spirit.

Diana Ding, Founder and CEO of Silicon Valley Community Media (SVCM), and winner of the 2023 Santa Clara City Wide Award led the beautiful float with the prominently displayed message: “Asian American Stories and All of us belong here”.

The float featured many Asian American cultural heritages, including traditional clothing, dances and music. It strongly promoted the message of diversity, inclusion and belonging. Joel Wong led the singing and dancing to the song “All of us Belong Right Here” – a catchy, meaningful tune to promote diversity, inclusion and what is great about America!

Kudos go to Hong Nguyen-Phuong, Liyan Zhao, Meiya Zhang, Alex Lu, Lin Chin, and many others who worked arduously to prepare the posters, banners and getting the float ready for the parade. We also thank Vietnamese Jazz Singer Thuy Linh and her guitarist for their beautiful performance from the Great American Songbook. Michelle Ahl, the lead dancer and choreographer led the upbeat dancing, and Sarah Han led the Korean dancers dressed in their beautiful hanbok.

The float was a big hit with the crowd, and many people stopped to take pictures and learn more about it. It was a great way to celebrate the diversity and richness of the Asian American community, and to show appreciation for the contributions of Asian Americans to Santa Clara and communities beyond. It was also an auspicious occasion to kick off the Asian American Stories Video Contest. Complete details of the contest can be found on aastories.org!
