Santa Clara is the only city in California that elects rather than appoints its Police Chief. The voters elected Pat Nikolai as the Police Chief in 2020. But a new measure (Measure B) got approved by the Santa Clara City Council that would change the position of police chief an appointed position. It will be on the ballot and before the voters in the March state primary.
