APALI 2023 Summer Internship Program

A team of six college student activists will be selected to lead an APALI Youth Leadership Academy this summer!

APALI Intern Job Description
A team of six Mentor Interns will collaborate with the instructor to organize and lead an APALI Youth Leadership Academy as a De Anza College online class. This six-week class engages college and high school seniors/juniors to explore Asian American identity, history, non-traditional career paths, civic engagement and leadership.

In addition to community building, each Mentor Intern is responsible for:

* Leading and mentoring a group of about six students.

* Plan and facilitate an engaging small group reading discussion each week.

* Plan and lead a small group learning activity each week.

* Plan and lead a small group civic project.

TRAINING & CLASS CALENDAR

Mentor Interns are required to participate in all training, class and events. Except for in-person events with venue locations, training and class are online.

Sat, June 3, 3 to 6 pm – T2 Training

Sat, June 17, 3 to 6 pm – T3 Training

APALI Internship Stipend
Upon satisfactory completion, each intern will receive a single payment in August for $2,000 gross amount.  However the check amount will likely be less depending on the amount withheld for income tax by intern.

 

Skills & Qualities

APALI Interns must:

* Be a college student or recent graduate who has some course work in Asian American studies or ethnic studies.

* Be confident in leading a college-level student small group and being a peer mentor.

* Have interest in lesson planning, leading reading discussions, facilitating learning activities, and being the leader of a curriculum project.

* Is socially mature, emotionally stable, empathetic–a self-starter with strong communication and personal/group management skills.

* Has interest in civic engagement, education, social justice.

* Committed to working 30-hours/ week for seven weeks– attend all class sessions, intern training, and planning meetings.

* Prioritize APALI paid internship and limit other work or class commitments to a minimum this summer.
