SUNDAY STREETS WESTERN ADDITION TO CELEBRATE ROOTS AND TRADITIONS IN THE FILLMORE ON SEPTEMBER 18TH

Get Outdoors To Enjoy Live Music, Community, and 1+ Miles of Car-free Streets

San Francisco, CA — Savor the summer with the last historic Sunday Streets route of the season, Sunday Streets Western Additions, on September 18th, from 11 AM to 4 PM. Neighbors and visitors on Fillmore Street, Fulton Street, and Baker Street are invited to co-create a communal living room in the streets to celebrate the artistic traditions of Fillmore and build deeper connections by sharing free health and family resources, partaking in outdoor recreation, and more.

“I’m proud to support car-free spaces across our City, particularly in neighborhoods most lacking parks and open space for exercise, recreation, and community-building. Sunday Streets is a fantastic program that has helped transform public spaces into thriving, pedestrian-friendly spaces to gather, celebrate, and be together,” says District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston. “This kind of re-imagining of public space – whether for a day, a weekend, or longer-term – is needed now more than ever.”

“With one final Sunday Streets this weekend and then Phoenix Day next month, there is still time to enjoy the festivities. SFMTA is happy to have provided residents with safe and car-fee community celebrations,” said Jeffrey Tumlin, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “And for half of dozen Sundays, we were also able to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and sea level rise with fewer cars on the road while equitably enhancing our city’s rich and colorful culture and diversity.”

Sunday Streets Western Addition activity highlights include dozens of live music performances by Fillmore Jazz Ambassadors, Beverly Al-Kareem, Phat Love Band, SF Rock Project, and many more, an outdoor art exhibit hosted by African American Art & Culture Complex, SFDPH COVID & Monkeypox Pop-up Vaccine Clinic, kids activities organized by the Buchanan YMCA and Booker T. Washington Community Service Center, Hula Hoop & Chalk Block hosted by SF Human Rights Commission, free bike rentals by Bay Wheels, free rock-climbing wall by SF Rec and Parks, free kids bike lessons with SF Bike Coalition & SFMTA Freedom from Training Wheels, and other free resource giveaways.
