Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Master Hou Beiren (1917–2025)
Renowned Chinese-American artist Hou Beiren (侯北人) passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 109. On June 29, his family, the Asian American Senior Association of California (ASACA), and the Silicon Valley Asian Art Center (SVAAC) hosted a heartfelt memorial celebration titled “A Celebration of Lives: Hou Beiren & Zhang Yunqin”, honoring the remarkable lives and enduring legacy of Master Hou and his beloved wife.
Friends, students, scholars, and community leaders from across the U.S. came together to pay tribute through speeches, music, memories, and art. The event was hosted by Diana Ding, and featured heartfelt reflections from Hou Beiren’s children and grandchildren, as well as remarks from SVAAC Director Shou Jianhua, who recalled Hou’s lifelong dedication to art, culture, and cross-cultural dialogue.
