NOMINATION PERIOD CLOSES THIS WEEK FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2022 GENERAL ELECTION

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF – The nominations filing period closes this week Friday, August 12 at 5:00 p.m. for offices participating in the November 8, 2022 General Election. The deadline may be extended to Wednesday, August 17 for those contests in which the eligible incumbent officeholder does not file.

“There is a strict filing deadline,” said Shannon Bushey, Registrar of Voters. “We strongly urge candidates to file sooner than later to ensure your name appears on the November ballot.”

The Registrar of Voters provides an updated unofficial list of candidates who have filed their documents and qualified in Santa Clara County on its website at sccvote.sccgov.org/candidates- measures, under the “November 8, 2022 General Election Resources” link.

The following local offices are currently in the nominations period for the November 8 election: Santa Clara County Board of Education (Trustee Areas 2, 6 & 7)

Candidates running for City offices – who have different filing requirements and deadlines – must pick up and file nomination papers with their respective City Clerks’ Office.Candidates must pay all required filing fees prior to issuance of nomination documents and, if applicable, pay any candidate statement deposits at the time nomination documents are filed.

    Candidates are encouraged to file originally signed nomination documents, including a Declaration of Candidacy and nomination signatures, together in one packet with the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters’ Office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, August 12, (or by Wednesday, August 17, if an eligible incumbent does not file) to qualify as a candidate.

    A Candidate Guide for the November 8, 2022 General Election is available to assist those running for office, with valuable information pertaining to qualifications for office, terms of office, procedures, fees, forms, and deadline dates. The Candidate Guide is available at no cost and may be picked up from the Registrar of Voters’ office or downloaded online at sccvote.sccgov.org/candidates-measures, under the “November 8, 2022 General Election Resources” link.

    If, by 5 p.m. on the August 17, 2022, the 83 day, the number of candidates in any district does not exceed that number of seats to be filled, and a petition signed by 10% of the voters of the district, or 50 voters, whichever is less, requesting that the election be held has not been presented to the Office of the Registrar of Voters, the election shall not be held, pursuant to Elections Code Section 10515(a).
