WHY:
Almost 4,000 animals were cared for in the former shelter each year. At the new Animal Services Center, staff and volunteers will be able to double their care capacity. The new center features advanced medical clinics, custom cat condos and dog dorms, specialized outdoor rehabilitation space, barn and pastures for large livestock, and emergency shelter capacity for community pets.

The former shelter is a San Martin residence that was donated to the County more than 70 years ago and lacked space and facilities to provide needed animal care services to the public. The County shelter currently has a 95% live release rate, which ranks it at the top among public facilities in California.

MEDIA INFORMATION:
The news conference will be livestreamed and available at https://www.facebook.com/events/2525599264414022/.

We encourage media representatives to email Nidia Aguirre at nidia.aguirre@cep.sccgov.org to RSVP for the event and a tour following the ribbon cutting. County of Santa Clara staff, Capital Project Manager, XL Construction, and Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture representatives will be available for questions.
