County Will Host Virtual National Day of Racial Healing Event on January 21, 2021
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA—Join the County of Santa Clara, our youth community, elected officials, and social justice leaders to lift up racial and social justice efforts in our community through a series of events this month commemorating the County’s National Day of Racial Healing. The County will host the virtual community event, “Healing through Justice, Truth, and Equity: Black Lives are Sacred,” today, January 21, 2021.
“Collaborating with our partners—schools, cities, nonprofit organizations, business, labor, and other stakeholders—makes us stronger, enhancing our ability to transform systems to better serve the community,” said Miguel Márquez, County of Santa Clara Chief Operating Officer. “We hope all members of the community and all of our partners will join us for the National Day of Racial Healing virtual event to learn about social justice efforts happening in Santa Clara County.”
The National Day of Racial Healing virtual event today, from 3:30-5pm, will feature key speakers and an online exhibit to display art from local students and community members who will express their views on racial healing. The County of Santa Clara Office of Cultural Competency, in the Division of Equity and Social Justice (DESJ), will host the second annual National Day of Racial Healing event and will share a calendar of virtual community events designed to focus on ways for the community to heal from the wounds of the past, to build mutually respectful relationships across racial and ethnic lines, and to build trusting intergenerational and diverse community relationships that better reflect our common humanity. This effort hosts a series of virtual healing spaces and engages youth, members of the community, and partners to share expressions of art related to this year’s theme. The events build upon the foundation and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as community efforts that strengthen racial equity and social justice.
