I love my Community – Education Everywhere by Ankit Lakkapragada

My name is Ankit Lakkapragada, I am a Senior at Lynbrook High School , San Jose.
During my trips to India, I noticed the educational disparity of school supplies between students there and back home. Every time when the academic year finished, students threw away their lightly used supplies to buy new ones. I had an idea to collect and redistribute these supplies and thus, my organization, Education Everywhere, was born.
Over the last four years, I have raised and donated almost $30,000 dollars worth of school supplies. In March of each year, I contact school principals and request to place bins and flyers in their school. Students come to the office and drop off their lightly used school supplies. In the first week of June when schools are closing, I collect all the donations. After, my team and I sort these supplies. Finally, I have donated these school supplies to schools and students in India, Guatemala, local Bay Area schools, and youth shelters.
