You may have learned about the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act in the United States, and the rich, complex records available to Chinese American family historians about their immigrant ancestors. But what happened to Chinese immigrants who set sail for other parts of the world? Learn about 19th and 20th century Chinese immigration to the Kingdom of Hawaii, Canada, and Australia in this introductory talk. We’ll discover more the challenges these immigrants faced in these other significant destinations in the Chinese diaspora, and how to navigate the archival records that document their lives.
CFHGSC webinars include an array of distinguished speakers that cover a variety of topics specific to Chinese genealogy. It takes countless volunteer hours and donations to bring you these programs. If you would like to consider supporting this effort and other programs with a donation to the CFHGSC
